Police havaldar arrested on graft charges

A police havaldar was today arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths for accepting bribe from a hotel owner in Chamorshi taluka of the district, police said.

The accused, identified as Dhanraj Kodape, attached with Ashti police station, had demanded Rs 5,000 from a hotel owner in order to allow him to sell illicit liquor in his hotel, an ACB release said.

However, the hotel owner approached the ACB, which laid a trap. Kodape was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount, it said.

A case was registered against the accused by Ashti police station, it said, adding further investigation is on.
