Police today lathicharged Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) members who were demonstrating at the Last Gate area of the city against the state government for allegedly allowing illegal Bangladeshis to settle in Assam.
Police claimed the lathicharge was made as the demonstrators forcibly tried to break the police barricade at Last Gate area of the city and move towards the Assembly on the opening day of the budget session.
AGP president Atul Bora claimed that eight AGP members were injured in the lathicharge.
"The government cannot stop us from opposing its move to roll out the red carpet to the illegal foreigners. We will continue with our agitation", Bora asserted.
