Police today registered a case against unknown persons after Sikh representatives submitted a memorandum to the authorities, alleging disrespect to the national flag after it was placed on the body of Punjab Shiv Sena President, Abhishek Batta during his cremation.

Batta was killed in a road accident on March 25 in Nawanshahr after which Shiv Sena activists allegedly assaulted a sikh leading to the arrests of several Shiv Sainiks.

A deputation of Sikh Sangat Phagwara, led by Model Town Gurdwara President Satbir Singh Sabhi, had earlier met Phagwara SP Ajinder Singh regarding the issue of disrespect to the tri-colour.

A case today was registered against unknown persons under Section 2(D) of Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act,1971.
