Police team attacked by armed goons in UP, 1 injured

A policeman who was part of a search party was left injured, after armed miscreants opened fire, moments after they had allegedly looted three persons in Rampur Maniharan town in the district.

Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Singh said that around 10.30 PM yesterday, three men were stopped by half-a-dozen armed persons, while they were coming from Islampur on a motorcycle.

As soon as the unidentified accused, who remain absconding, left the spot, the victims who were robbed of their mobile phones and cash, informed police.

Taking swift action, four policemen left Islampur police station on two motorcycles and started searching for the culprits. Soon after, the armed men who were hiding in a mango orchard, opened fire at the police team.
 

During the attack, policeman Kapil sustained a bullet injury in his foot, following which senior police officials including Rampur station incharge- PK Singh rushed to the spot with additional force and launched a search operation.

In another case, 12 vehicles engaged in illegal mining were seized and their drivers were sent to jail in Thana Behat area in the district. The action was taken after SSP Luv Kumar directed two police officers to crackdown on the illegal mining in the area.
