Pondy to get Rs 50 cr relief as first instalment

The Centre has informed Puducherry government that Rs 50 crore is being released as first instalment for undertaking relief operations in the wake of rains battering the Union Territory.

A release from the office of Chief Minister N Rangasamy said today that the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh informed him that the Centre "is releasing first instalment of Rs 50 crore to Puducherry towards relief assistance".

Puducherry was pounded by rains during the past few days and Rangasamy had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singh Rs 183.45 crore to enable the government to take up relief works.

An inter-ministerial Central team had also visited Puducherry to study the situation.
 

The Chief Minister had yesterday announced a Rs 150 crore relief package for farmers, cattle owners, among other sections affected by the rains.
