Poonia, along with her husband and coach Virender, reached London on July 3 and started training at Basildon Sporting Village yesterday.
The multi-sport and recreational facility is situated at Basildon, a town in Essex county, within 50 km from London.
Poonia said she decided to reach London much before her actual event date as she wanted to acclimatise with the conditions.
"We decided to reach London early and this was decided much earlier. We had given a training schedule to the Sports Ministry long time back and in that we have said we would want to be in London one month before the actual day of the event," she told PTI on phone from Basildon.
"There is day-night difference between United States and UK and it would be hard to adjust fast to the conditions here. So we decided to reach London much earlier to adapt to the conditions," said Poonia, who trained at Portland in United States for three months before this.
