Press Trust of India New Delhi
Bharatiya Postal Employees Federation (BPEF) today termed as a "political" move the postal service workers' decision to go on an indefinite strike from July 11 demanding pay hike and said it will take a call on joining the agitation after reviewing the situation.

"The 7th Pay Commission has recommended increasing the pay by 2.57 times, but in the meeting with the cabinet secretaries, we along with all other organisations have requested that it should be increased by 2.87 times.

"Then from where does the question of holding a strike arises?" asked Santosh Kumar Singh, the Secretary General of Bharatiya Postal Employees Federation.

"If the government does not accept these demands, we will lead an agitation of postal employees, but till then any such move is a merely a political decision," he said.

The National Federation of Postal Employees has called for an indefinite strike from July 11 in support of a host of demands, including a hike in salaries.
