A 25-year-old pregnant woman was found dead in mysterious circumstances inside her house in south east Delhi's Govindpuri area, police said today.

According to the police, the incident came to light when the owner of the house, in which the victim was residing on rent along with her husband, a street vendor, complained of some foul smell.

The deceased has been identified as Arti who had shifted to the house at Tughlakabad in Govindpuri along with her husband, Nanhe, a week ago.

The house was bolted from outside (rpt outside) and the husband was absconding, the police said, adding that marital discord could be the reason behind the death of the woman.

"The landlady complained of some foul smell from inside the victim's house today morning. Since the room was locked, she opened the door with duplicate keys and the decomposed body of the woman was found," a police officer said.

The body has been sent to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for post mortem and efforts are on to nab Nanhe, the officer said.

The police also said that the couple belonged to Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.
