Prisoner commits suicide in lock-up

An under-trial allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in the lock-up at Miao Police Station in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, police said today.

Babu Kamyal (21) committed suicide on Wednesday inside the lock-up toilet after he was arrested the previous day for allegedly stealing a SBBL 12 Bore gun along with live cartridges from a person.

Kamyal was arrested following a complaint lodged by one Punlinong Tikhak of Old Champu-II village, who in his FIR had alleged that the accused had stolen a gun on February 23 last.

The weapon along with 22 cartridges was recovered by the police from a nearby jungle.
