"We had stuck a notice under section 133 of CrPC for carrying out illegal abortions and sex determination tests on the Munde Hospital run by Dr Sudam and Dr Saraswati Munde on Wednesday. As the hospital failed to reply, we have sealed the clinic," Additional District Collector Namdev Jadhav said.
Meanwhile, Ambajogai Sub-Divisional Officer Mandar Vaidya told PTI that the authorities have initiated a procedure to bar the doctor couple from entring Parli tehsil for two months.
The victim, Vijaymala Mahadev Phatekar, a sugarcane labourer, died on May 18 due to hemorrhagic shock following second trimester abortion and heavy blood flow. Her operation was conducted at Dr Sudam and Sarswati Munde's clinic in Parli tehsil.
Meanwhile, activists of 'Lekladki Abhiyan' held demonstrations at the hospital and waved black flags in protest.
The Lekladki Abhiyan's Varsha Deshpande told PTI that the case should be transferred out of Beed district for transparent probe.
In 2010, after Lek Ladki Abhiyan caught Dr Munde on camera while conducting a sex determination test, the state health department had sealed his sonography machine and cancelled the licence of his abortion centre.
According to police, two teams have been constituted to trace the doctor couple, and one of the them had left for Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. (More)
