Probe begins into Ghaziabad violence

The Uttar Pradesh government had ordered the Divisional Commissioner Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan to inquire into the incident.

The DC said witnesses in the case can record their testimony with him at his office here from September 24 to 27 between 10 AM to 2 PM.

Six persons were killed and 12 others injured in violence and arson during a protest in Masuri area of Ghaziabad district on September 14 against alleged desecration of a holy book.

The violence erupted after torn pages of a holy book were allegedly found at Ghaziabad's Adhyatmik Nagar railway station platform.

The UP government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed, Rs 50,000 each to the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 to those having minor injuries.
