Delhi government has initiated the process of reinstating permits of contract-based operators of carriages and mini buses, which were cancelled after their addresses were found to be "incorrect" by the police.
Transport Department in September last year had cancelled the permits of around 2,579 such operators for furnishing "incorrect" addresses.
According to State Transport Authority (STA) official, after the cancellation of permits, some operators approached with verification certificates issued by Delhi Police in respect of their new address and requested for reinstating their permits.
"Department has asked such operators to furnish copy of police clearance certificates of their addresses by May 16," a senior government official said.
The official also said they had asked these operators to get their new addresses endorsed in the registration certificate (RC) so that their cancelled permits could be reinstated.
The address verification drive had been initiated after the December 16 gangrape incident when it was found that the owner of this vehicle had submitted false address proof.
Thereafter, the Ministry of Home Affairs had asked for verification of all permit holders be carried out.
