The spokesman said Badal will inaugurate the

The project is a first-of-its-kind canal network which will use concrete lining instead of the conventional brick lining, he said, adding the technique was exclusively used in the construction of dams.

The state government had decided to modernise the Bist-Doab canal as part of a plan to renovate 801-km-long stretch of canal network at a cost of Rs 269.78 crore to provide irrigation facility for cultivated land of 847 villages.

Modernisation of minors, distributaries and water courses was also part of this project due to which its cost has been raised to Rs 320 crore, the spokesman said.
