Rains lash most places in Punjab, few places in Haryana

Moderate to heavy rains lashed several places in Punjab and few parts of Haryana today, providing relief to people from sweltering heat.

Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, was lashed by heavy rains. It received 61.5 mm rainfall and the maximum temperature here settled at 32.5 degrees Celsius, a MeT department report said.

The maximum temperatures, which were hovering between 42 to 45 degrees Celsius at most places in the two states, dropped by a few notches today after the showers, it said.

Mohali, Ropar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Phagwara and Amritsar among other places in Punjab received rains while showers lashed Panchkula, Kalka, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Hisar and Yamunanagar in Haryana.
 

Amritsar received 22.1 mm rainfall and recorded 32.1 degrees Celsius, eight degrees below normal limits, the report said.

Ludhiana, too, registered an identical maximum temperature of 32.1 degrees Celsius. The industrial town in Punjab was lashed by heavy downpour (48 mm).

Patiala's maximum temperature settled at 33.2 degrees Celsius, down by seven notches, after being lashed by 30.2 mm rain, the report said.

In Haryana, Ambala recorded a maximum of 32.9 degrees Celsius, down by six notches, after receiving 73.8 mm rainfall.

Karnal recorded a high of 32 degrees Celsius, seven notches below the normal after receiving 9.4 mm rain. Hisar, which received 2.8 mm of rain, recorded a high of 35 degrees Celsius.

The MeT department has forecast rain or thunder showers at isolated places in Haryana and Punjab over the next two days.
