In view of heavy rains during the last few days, East Singhbhum district administration today alerted people living in low-lying areas in and around the steel city of Jamshedpur.
People of areas such as, Mango, Old Purulia Road to Haddi Godown, behind Jesu Bhawan, Goud Bustee, Post Office Road, Shantinagar likely who could be affected by flood were alerted through public address system, officials said.
Deputy Commissioner of the district, Amit Kumar today asked the Sub-Divisional Officer (Dalbhum), Suraj Kumar and other senior officials to keep vigil owing to possibility of flood-like situation as the Swarnarekha river is in spate following release of water from Chandil dam in adjoining Seraikela-Kharswan district, officials said.

SDO Kumar have deputed four magistrates to keep vigil in flood prone areas of the district like Kadma, Shastrinagar, Sonari, Jugsalai, Bagbera etc and directed them to get equipped with lights, ropes, life jackets, paddle boats, ambulance etc to meet any eventuality.
All precautionary measures have been taken after the Executive Engineer Vinay Kumar Burnwal of Swarnarekha Dam Division-2 apprised the district administration about the release of water from Chandil dam in the afternoon.
The senior official has thrice inspected the water level of Swarnarekah river between 12 pm to 4.30 pm and observed that water level of the river did not rise as apprehended.
