Rajasthan director general of police (DGP) Omendra Bhardwaj today expressed concern over the number of crime cases pending at police stations and asked officials to minimise it.
At a press conference after the two-day conference of inspectors general of police and commissioners here, Bhardwaj said the pendency of crime cases at police stations was about 28 per cent and it was a concern among the people and the major reason of dissatisfaction in the police department.
He said officers are retiring but their positions not being filled-in due to delay in promotions leading to huge pendency in cases. There were a few officers to investigate cases on time. Though the pendency of cases was over 36 per cent six months ago, it has been brought down to 28 per cent now, Bhardwaj added.
On a question related to the recent arrests of suspected Indian Mujahideen module members from parts of Rajasthan, the DGP said, "We can not say any thing on it... We cannot even say the IM matter is over till follow up action is completed. One IM suspect was arrested in Gaya yesterday, but he did not belong to Rajasthan."
"Law and order was our main concern during the two-day meet, and I can claim that it is very peaceful and things are improving in the state. Rajasthan Police have done their duty very well in the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, it was totally incident free elections," he added.
The state police was also strengthening the "criminal intelligence by appointing one officer in every police station specially to monitor intelligence and reporting to police headquarters. These officers would require effective training before their placements is done", he said.
To contain crime inside jails, Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) jawans would be trained and posted in the outer periphery of each prison, he said. Beat system in each police station was also being picked up in the state with the revival of informer system, the DGP said.
On rising inter-state crime, he said a special cell of special operation group (SOG) located at Delhi would be strengthened with a senior level officer from the Jaipur commissionerate being posted there. A number of serious inter- state criminal cases were not being attended due to poor information of crime record of other states, he said.
