Record contracts are just like slavery: Prince

Legendary singer Prince has expressed concerns over the state of the music business.

The 57-year-old "I Wanna Be Your Lover" singer feels the contracts are similar to "slavery" and advised upcoming artists to not get attached to one, reported Aceshowbiz.

"Record contracts are just like - I'm gonna say the word - slavery. I would tell any young artist... Don't sign," he said.

He said that typical record company contracts turn the artists into "indentured servants" who do not have any control over their music.

Defending rapper Jay-Z's much criticised streaming service Tidal, the Grammy Award-winning musician said the service according to him was one of the solutions to artists' problems with recording companies.

"Once we have our own resources, we can provide what we need for ourselves. Jay-Z spent USD 100 million of his own money to build his own service. We have to show support for artists who are trying to own things for themselves," he said.
