Record number of countries for Cadet Asian wrestling tourney

The Cadet Asian (sub-junior) Wrestling championship, to be held here from June 11 to 14, will witness participation from a record 20 countries.

Besides hosts India, wrestling powerhouses such as Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Japan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, North and South Korea will be vying for top honours during the four-day long event at the IG Sports complex.

In all 112 Freestyle, 89 Greco Roman and 66 Female wrestlers will be competing for 10 gold, 10 silver and 20 bronze medals in each style.

Last year, the Indian Freestyle Cadet wrestling team was the overall champion.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to inaugurate the tournament.
 

"Our wrestlers have put India on the world map and grapplers from other countries want to come here and compete. As many as 20 countries will be seen in action in the upcoming tournament," Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Wrestling Federation of India president, said.
