Relief from heat wave in Punjab, Haryana

People continued to enjoy respite from the heat wave sweeping Punjab and Haryana for past few weeks as mercury at various places in the two states settled below normal levels.

In Chandigarh, people woke up to a partially overcast sky and the city recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius, down by two notches, the Met department said here.

Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab recorded highs of 39.4 and 38.6 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal.

Maximum temperature in Amritsar, which was reeling under blistering heat for past several days, settled two notches below normal at 40 degrees Celsius.
 

In Haryana, Ambala recorded a high of 36.4 degrees, while Karnal's maximum settled at 39 degrees Celsius. Hisar and Narnaul recorded highs of 42 and 42.5 degrees Celsius.

The Met department forecasts possibility of dust storm at isolated places in the two states over the next couple of days.
