A 78-year-old retired police officer was allegedly killed by unidentified persons at his residence here and also decamped with cash and jewellery, police said today.
Retired inspector Arjun Singh Parihar, was allegedly killed last evening at his residence in Vishnupura Colony while his wife, who works at a girls' hostel in the vicinity, was out, Deputy Inspector General Santosh Singh said.
When Parihar's wife returned home, she found him lying on the ground with a piece of cooler wire kept near the body, the officer said.

According to family members, Parihar's wife found her house, on the first floor, ransacked and Rs 10,000 cash and three gold rings were also stolen, the DIG said.
Prime facie it appears Parihar died of asphyxiation, he said.
The body has been sent for postmortem and further investigations are on to nab the culprits.
