A revenue department official was today arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to process a farmer's drought compensation in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district, said an official.
An ACB official told PTI that Bhekhchand Dewangan (28), a 'patwari' (revenue department official) posted at Chhura in the district, was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from Bhimsingh Dhurv during a trap laid by the agency.
"The complainant Dhurv, a native of Dwartara village, owns agriculture land in Karidadar village. He was sanctioned Rs 32,000 as drought relief by the administration," he said.
"Dewangan allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from Dhurv to process the latter's compensation. Dhurv complained to the ACB following which a trap was laid at the complainant's home in Dwartara," the official said.
"The revenue official was apprehended when he accepted the money during the trap. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigations are underway," the official said.
