RG Kar hospital patient commits suicide

A patient of a state-run hospital here allegedly committed suicide today by hanging himself, the police said.

Madan Mal (47), a resident of Amnan village under Hooghly district's Polbag police station, was admitted to the RG Kar hospital after he tried to kill himself by consuming Hydrochloric Acid on Thursday, a senior officer of the Kolkata Police said.

"Mal committed suicide by hanging himself with an electrical wire from the ceiling of a staircase room opposite Doctors' rest room at RG Kar Hospital's Emergency building at around 9 AM today," the officer said.

He said the police was looking into how Mal got the electrical wire.
