A local court today remanded a sitting RPI-A corporator of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) in police custody till June 19 for allegedly manhandling and threatening a police constable.

Prakash Londhe, who belongs to the Athawale faction of the Republican Party of India (RPI), surrendered at Sarkarwada Police Station here yesterday, following which he was arrested, Sitaram Kolhe, in-charge of the police station, said.

Londhe was produced in a district court today, which remanded him in police custody till June 19, Kolhe said.

The corporator has been accused of manhandling and threatening the police constable on the premises of Nashik court on May 24 after the latter tried to stop him from providing liquor to two accused in a double murder case there.

Londhe had approached the local court earlier this month seeking bail, but the application was rejected. He later approached the Bombay High Court, which also turned down his bail on Tuesday.

According to police, Londhe was trying to provide liquor on the court premises to the two accused in the double murder case. His son Bhushan Londhe is also an accused in the double murder case, but is absconding.

Bhushan and five others are accused of their alleged involvement in the killing of Arjun Avhad (26) and Nikhil Gavale (22) in Satpur in the district on December 31, 2015. The bodies were dumped near Trimbakeshwar and were recovered later.
