Rs 50 lakh worth ganja seized in raids

Police today raided two different areas at Thangachimadam in the district and seized 100 kg of ganja which was meant to be smuggled to Sri Lanka.

The seized contraband was worth Rs 50 lakh.

Five persons were arrested in this connection, 'Q' branch Inspector Kennedy said.

While 40 kg of ganja was seized at Thangachimadam, where it was found kept packed and ready for being transported to Sri Lanka, 60 kg was seized at Ariyankundu area, he said.

All the five persons were remanded to judicial custody, he added.
