Rajya Sabha today mourned the death of its former member Sarada Mohanty, with Chairman Hamid Ansari describing him as one who worked tirelessly for the upliftment of weaker and downtrodden sections.
When the House met, Ansari mentioned the passing away of Mohanty on July 8 at the age of 90 years.
He represented the state of Odisha in the Upper House from April 1990 to April 1996.

"In the passing away of Shri Sarada Mohanty, the country has lost an able parliamentarian and a dedicated social worker. We deeply mourn the passing way of Sarada Mohanty," he said.
Members rose in their places and observed silence as mark of respect to the memory of the departed.
