The RSS today said the Sangh can be described as a youth organisation as members of its 91 per cent 'sakhas' are below 40 years of age.

"Members of 91 per cent of all Sakhas are below 40 years of age. So, Sangh can be described as a youth organisation," RSS General Secretary Bhayyaiji Joshi said.

Of this 91 per cent, 66 per cent comprise students, Joshi told a press conference here.

He expressed happiness that the youth are being attracted to its fold, and its 'Join RSS' campaign has got an impressive response in 2015.

"The 'Join RSS' online campaign has received 8,000 applicants per month so far this year, compared to 1,000 per month when it started in 2012," Joshi said.

He said 10,500 new 'Sakhas' or work units have been created during the last three years, taking the total number units to 50,400 in the country.

Dismissing reports that the Sangh activities are confined to towns or cities only, Joshi said 60 per cent of the total Sakhas were at village level and the rest in cities, "taking up social issues and serving the people".
