Russian held for assaulting cop

A 45-year-old Russian national was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer at a beach near here, police said today.

The police control room received a call last evening that Alexander Trafimchyk, who was in a drunken state, was creating nuisance at Anjuna beach, inspector Paresh Naik said.

When policemen reached there, he started abusing them and hit sub-inspector Mahesh Kerkar with a beach umbrella, he said.

The Russian was subsequently arrested, he added.
