K Sanath Kumar, Director and General Manager of GIC Re, today took over as CMD of Kolkata-based National Insurance Company (NIC).
Confirming the development, Kumar told PTI that as per the government order, he has been appointed Chairman and Managing Director of NIC till April 30, 2018.
NIC's top post fell vacant after then incumbent N S R Chandraprasad retired in February 2014. Since then, the state-run general insurance company is being managed by acting CMDs.
Rajesh Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance, held additional charge as acting CMD of NIC for more than a year.
