Sanitation worker dies inside manhole, 2 fall ill

A municipal sanitation worker died and two others fell unconscious due to inhalation of toxic gases after they went down into a manhole at Defence Colony in Saroornagar Mandal here today, police said.

Madhu (30), an employee of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, and two others went down into the manhole at around 8.15 AM to clean it but fell unconscious after they inhaled the toxic gases inside.

While Madhu died on the spot, his co-workers were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital, where the condition of one of them is critical, police inspector Srinivasa Reddy said.
