The Supreme Court today said the counselling for admission in professional colleges like engineering and medical in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will go on till August, 2014.

A bench comprising Justices S J Mukhopadhaya and S A Bobde observed that it was concerned that students from both the states should not suffer due to the bifurcation of state and posted the matter for further hearing on August 11.

The bench on the next date of hearing will also consider plea of Telangana seeking extension of time till October 31 for completing the admission process.

The cut-off date for completion of counselling process is July 31 of every year.

Senior advocate Harish Salve along with advocate Krishna Kumar Singh, appearing for Telangana, sought more time on the ground that it lacks the requiste number of staff to verify the antecedents of the students, including their nativity.

Earlier, Telangana has rejected the offer of Andhra Pradesh to reimburse 58 per cent of fees of students hailing from Seemandhra and studying in Hyderabad.

Telangana has taken a stand that it would extend financial support to only to its native students.

The Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education has already issued notification for admission to engineering colleges in both the states and announced verification of certificates from August 7.

However, Telangana government has asked students from the state in to ignore the same.

Telangana has also formed Telangana State Council for Higher Education apparently to pre-empt any move by the Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education to admit students to engineering colleges in Telangana.

As per the Andhra Pradesh Re-organization Act, common admission test would continue for ten years.
