The South Delhi Municipal Corporation today launched its ambitious exercise to provide Unique Property Identification Cards (UPICs) to all the property owners in the civic area distributing 16 cards in a function.
The UPICs were given to 16 property owners, four from each zone today. By the end of January next year, we will provide these cards to 3.74 lakh property owners in the municipal area, said Radhe Shyam Sharma, chairman of SDMC standing committee.
The UPICs were provided to property owners by the South Delhi Mayor Subhash Arya.

"In the beginning the UPICs will be given to those properties which are covered by the property tax net," he said.
The UPICs will bear the new and old property numbers apart from name of the property owner. The cards will also help in determining the zonal location of the properties and help in enforcing an effective tax regime besides boosting revenue, Sharma said.
"As per data submitted by GSDL (GeoSpatial Delhi Ltd), the SDMC has to realise property tax from 16 lakh properties under its jurisdiction. But presently we are getting property tax only from 4 lakh properties," he said
The civic body will also have property online facility which will enable property taxpayers to avail the data of their previous year's property tax details, said South Delhi commissioner Punit Goel.
A help desk will also be established to provide information to taxpayers about the new system, said SDMC House leader Ashish Sood.
