A section of shops across the state remained closed today in response to a strike call given by 'Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopanasamithi' to protest the new e-declaration policy and other policies of the government.

The Samithi was protesting provisions in the e-declaration policy with regard to goods transported from other states to impose fine even for small mistakes and wanted withdrawal of government decision to levy two per cent turnover tax imposed on cloth merchants.

The Ekopanasamithi activists also took out demonstrations in various parts of the state as part of their agitation.

However, 'Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Congress' abstained from the strike.

The Samithi also wanted implementation of the Buildings (Lease, Basic Rent and Other Facilities) Bill, 2013 to prevent eviction of traders from their places without any valid grounds, and to stop raids related to sale of tobacco products in permitted places.

Meanwhile, functioning of outlets of State Civil Supplies Corporation was also affected today following strike by a section of employees demanding better working conditions inclduing pension to workers.
