Senior assistant suspended for tearing Rs 500 notes

A senior assistant, posted at a treasury office in Khanna, was suspended for allegedly tearing currency notes of Rs 500 denomination, an official spokesperson said today.

Special Secretary cum Director Treasury and Accounts Abhinav Trikha suspended Harjinder Singh on disciplinary grounds, he said.

The spokesperson said a video had recently gone viral in which Singh was purportedly seen tearing currency notes of Rs 500 denomination.

Taking a serious note, Trikha suspended Singh with immediate effect, he said, adding a separate enquiry is also being conducted.
