Citing public outrage over alleged demand for increased toll on the Chennai-Bangalore highway, PMK founder leader S Ramadoss today urged the Centre to set up a regulatory authority to prevent "fleecing" by companies that operate the toll plazas.
"In toll plazas at Pallikonda and Vaniyambadi on the Chennai Bangalore national highway, the managements had demanded additional levy. This has led to agitation in these areas," Ramadoss, whose party is an ally of NDA, said here in a statement.
If the alleged fleecing by toll managements continued, there would be an opportunity for a "public upheaval" against them, he cautioned.

"To avert this, the Centre should set up a regulatory authority to rein in toll firms and prevent fleecing," he said.
The corporates that run toll plazas "fix the levy according to their own will and fleece the people", he alleged.
