At least seven primary school students have been killed and 20 others injured when a picnic bus plunged into a roadside canal in southwestern Bangladesh.

The accident took place yesterday when the bus carrying around 30 children, aged between 6 to 10, skidded off the road due to rain in Jhautola area, police said.

The children were on their way back to Benapole from Mujibnagar in Meherpur district after a picnic, Matiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chougacha Police Station, was quoted by Daily Star as saying.
