A Sub-Inspector was allegedly attacked and taken hostage by a group of locals in protest against the arrest of a history-sheeter in Khalaur village here, police said today.
29-year-old Deepak had over six cases registered against him in various police stations of the district and had been dodging the police for over nine months, according to SP (Rural) Pankaj Pandey.
A police team, led by Sub-Inspector Sanjay Kumar of Jahangirabad Police Station, raided Deepak's house yesterday afternoon following which he was arrested, the SP said.

The team was on its way to the police station when the villagers attacked the officers, demanding an immediate release of the accused, he said.
SI Sanjay Kumar was manhandled by the villagers and taken to history-sheeter's house, where he was locked inside one of the rooms, he said.
An reinforcement team from the police station adjoining Jahangirabad joined the operation to secure the release of the Sub-Inspector.
As the villagers started to pelt stones on the rescue team, the police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the villagers, the SP said, adding the team was successful in rescuing the Sub-Inspector.
Six persons were taken in custody for assaulting the police, the SP said.
