Tracking a firming trend in precious metals overseas, silver prices soared by Rs 150 to Rs 40,067 per kg in futures trade today as speculators widened their bets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in July contracts shot up by Rs 150, or 0.38 per cent, to Rs 40,067 per kg in a business turnover of 166 lots.

The white metal for delivery in September was trading higher by Rs 126, or 0.31 per cent, to Rs 40,651 per kg in two lots.

Market analysts said speculative position created by participants, driven by firm global trend influenced silver futures prices here.

Meanwhile, silver rose 0.06 per cent to USD 16.44 an ounce in Singapore.
