The banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) continues to engage in subversive activities which are prejudicial to the integrity and security of the country, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

"Reports have been received from various states and Union Territories and investigation agencies about continued activities of the SIMI which are prejudicial to the integrity and security of the state and have the potential of disturbing peace and communal harmony and disrupting the secular fabric of the country," Minister of State for Home RPN Singh said.

Therefore, he said, the central government has declared SIMI an unlawful association under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 on February 1, 2014 for a period of five years.
