Singer Nagore Hanifa no more

Renowned Tamil Muslim devotional singer and propagandist Nagore EM Hanifa died here today of an age-related ailment. He was 90.

Hanifa breathed his last at his residence here tonight, sources said.

He had sung a number of Tamil Muslim devotional songs and was a leading propagandist of for more than five decades.

Hailing from the pilgrim town of Nagore in Nagapattinam district, Hanifa's voice was popular among the DMK cadre.

He was a member of the now defunct Legislative Council in the early 1970s.

DMK President condoled the death of Hanifa and recalled his contribution to the growth of the party, especially through the rendering of party anthems in his unique voice.
