Six bodies retrieved

Police today retrieved six bodies of the pilgrims who were swept by the flash floods when they were returning after offering worship yesterday, at Chathuragirimalai near here.

The bodies of five persons were retrieved early this morning down the jungle river, while the body of a youth was found trapped between the rocks at Pasukadai.

Police said two others managed to swim to safety.

Fire service personnel and police together managed to rescue hundreds of people who were trapped in the Chathuragiri hills using rope.

People had gathered in large numbers to offer worship to the presiding deity on the auspicious Amavasya day yesterday.
