: Six panchaloha idols were unearthed by workers today while digging land for constructing an anganwadi at a village in this district, official sources said.
However the period to which they belonged and their value would be known only after examination by Archaeological department experts, they said.
The sources said the workers spotted one idol at a depth of three feet after they began digging the land in Thiruvali village and immediately alerted revenue officials, who rushed to the spot and used earthmovers to dig deeper.

Six intricately carved panchaloha idols, including that of Lord Vinayaka, Somaskanthar, Ambal and Gnanasambandar were unearthed.
The idols, between one to three feet in height, have now been kept at the taluk office in Sirkazhi,they said.
