Six tea garden labourers die in Jalpaiguri district

At least six tea labourers have died from malnutrition in the last six days at a tea garden in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district.

The labourers belonging to the closed Raibur tea garden under Rajganj block of the district died from malnutrition in the last six days, SDO Jalpaiguri Seema Halder said here today.

The district administration provided money to the father of one of the victims yesterday after he expressed inability to perform the last rites of his son because of poverty, she said.

UTUC leader Nirmal Das, in a letter to the state government, said that seven tea gardens were closed and labourers affected by malnutrition.
 

He appealed to the government to take remedial measures and provide relief to them.
