SP candidate thrashed me, alleges RO for Panchayat polls

A Returning Officer for Zila Panchayat polls here today accused Samajwadi Party candidate of beating him up after he was defeated by a BJP-supported candidate in the elections.

Bheem Singh Upadhyaya said the SP nominee Dalveer Singh Yadav lost the polls to BJP-backed candidate Virat Dubey for Muaun block by 17 votes.

According to Upadhyaya, Yadav demanded recounting which he turned down. Angry over the refusal, Yadav along with his supporters thrashed him, he alleged.

Additional District Magistrate Alok Kumar Srivastava said a medical examination of the RO has been conducted and a complaint has been filed with police.

He said stern action would be taken against guilty after inquiry. "Victory certificate has not been issued to any candidate so far," the ADM said.
