A special cell would be constituted in Haryana to enforce a ban on burning of waste, receive complaints regarding improper disposal of construction and demolition rubble, and to monitor pollution levels in the state.
This was disclosed today at a meeting here for implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan to combat air pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR).
During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary in Environment Department, K K Khandelwal, said that the Transport Department was preparing software for auditing and assessing Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certification for vehicles.
This would enable monitoring of all centres where PUC certificates are issued, an official release quoted Khandelwal as saying.
A special cell equipped with tools for testing emission levels of vehicles would be constituted, and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board would provide the financial assistance for this purpose.
Apart from this, 19 stations would be established in the state to monitor air pollution levels.
Inter-sectoral public transport system would also be implemented in Gurugram under which electric buses would be introduced on an experimental basis along with CNG buses, he added.
The work to set up a plant at village Basai in district Gurugram for the disposal of construction and demolition waste, also known as C and D waste, is underway.
In view of the large quantity of C and D waste generated in Gurugram city, it was planned to establish four more such plants to deal with it.
The officers of the Pollution Control Board informed that fines to the tune of about Rs 1.50 crore had so far been recovered from various construction sites in the NCR.
