: Madras High Court bench today ordered status quo be maintained on the issue of direct recruitment of lecturers (senior scale) for Property law under Backward Class category in government Law colleges in Tamil Nadu
Justice K Ravichandrababu gave the direction, for two weeks to the Teachers Recruitment Board on a petition by R A Vijipriya,a guest lecturer at Government Law College, Madurai.
She contended that TRB issued a notification on July 22 last year to fill up vacancies in the posts of lecturers (senior scale)/ lecturers senior scale (pre Law) for the colleges for 2013-14.

As per the notification, seven posts were allotted for Property Law subject, of which one was reserved for BC.
The petitioner was one among thowe who took the written exam on Sept 21 last year.When TRB released its key answers in October, she found 14 were wrong and pointed it out the TRB through a representation.
The TRB modified 10 answers, but not the other four. Thereafter, it had published the mark details of candidates and prepared provisional list. As she did not find her name in the provisional list, she moved court .
When the matter came up for hearing, her counsel informed the court that his client was granted only 112 marks, instead of 116, resulting in her losing her chance to get appointment under the BC category.
TRB's failure to correct the key answers had resulted in her being denied appointment, she said and sought an interim direction to it to keep a post vacant in BC category,stay all further proceedings pursuant to the provisional list,to direct TRB to award four marks to her and appoint her to the post.
The petitioner submitted that the result would be declared any time and if this happened, would seriously prejudice her rights
Following this, the court ordered status quo.
