Over 600 stone-crushing units in the region, including 92 in the district, have stopped the production from November 23 to protest the 100 per cent increase in the mining royalty.

President of Chandrapur Zilla Khaan Va Crusher Dharak Sangh Chandrakant Wasade said Maharashtra government hiked the royalty from Rs 200 per brass (100 cubic feet) to Rs 400 per brass with effect from May 11, 2015.

The government is reluctant to consider slashing the exorbitant royalty rate, he claimed.
