Press Trust of India Coimbatore
Two girl students today sought the intervention of the district collector to prevent industries mushrooming in residents areas, creating noise and air pollution.

In a petition to the collector T N Hariharan, Dhanya and Nivedha, both teenage sisters and residents of Uppilipalayam, urged him to either to stop or bring down noise pollution created by aluminium manufacturers in the area.

Claiming that the increasing number of industries in residential area like Sreenivas Nagar was creating noise and air pollution, the students said they were not able to concentrate in their studies for final examinations scheduled in March and April next.

A property owner has rented out his land for an aluminium product manufacturer some months ago and another factory aame up recently, which worked round the clock, creating noise and air pollution, beyond the allowed level.

Considering the health hazards and students' future, the administration should take steps either to prevent the noise pollution or direct the factories to bring down the decibel level, the students said.
