Sugar rallies on heavy demand

Prices of both varieties of sugar rallied at the Vashi wholesale market here today on heavy demand from stockists and bulk consumers amid good export offtake.

Small sugar (S-30) rose by Rs 34/11 per quintal to Rs 3,160/3,242 from Wednesday's closing level of Rs 3,126/3,231.

Medium sugar (M-30) spurted by Rs 18/50 per quintal to Rs 3,230/3,402 as against Rs 3,212/3,352 yesterday.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,160/3,242 (Rs 3,126/3,231).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,230/3,402 (Rs 3,212/3,352).
