CPI today termed the suicide by a farmer at an AAP rally in Delhi as an expression of feeling and difficulties being faced by the entire farming community in the country.

"It is a truth that a farmer has committed suicide. But it has brought to light the real picture of the problems being faced by farmers in the country," CPI National secretary D Raja told reporters at the airport here.

The farmer from Rajasthan had hanged himself from a tree in full public gaze at the AAP rally on April 22.

Raja said no attempt should be made to politicise the issue and also make it an issue of debate among parties.

He said the reality was that farmers countrywide are in dire straits and facing financial burden, without getting remunerative prices for their crop.

The Narendra Modi government, instead of attempting to get the Land Acquisition Bill passed, should concentrate on providing adequate compensation to farmers across the country, he said.

CPI has drawn up nationwide agitation on May 14 to protest against the bill, which would adversely affect the livelihood of the farmers, he said.

Raja was here to address a party meeting. He will also attend a two-day party conference in Tirupur District from tomorrow.

On the killings of Tamil woodcutters in Andhra Pradesh, Raja said the issue will be raised in Parliament.

He demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
