CPI(M) MLA in Jammu and Kashmir M Y Tarigami today demanded stern action against the fringe elements who disturb the peace and communal harmony in the state.

"The government must strongly act against those elements who indulge in poisonous communal campaign propaganda," Tarigami said in a statement here.

The lone CPI(M) MLA appealed people across the state not to fall prey to machinations of communal forces who are hell- bent to divide them on religious lines.

The Kulgam MLA expressed serious concern over the prevailing communal tension in the state and urged all the political streams, civil society and the media to play a positive role in order to keep age-old social and communal amity intact in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said certain elements with partisan political interests want to divide the people on communal lines which has dangerous ramifications for the unity of the state.

"The increasing intolerance in Jammu and Kashmir is matter of serious concern, and the people must rise to the occasion and strongly come out against the communal frenzy that is eating into vital of our cultural ethos," he added.
